This explains how Visit Belfast (“we”, “us” or “our”) protects and respects the personal data we collect from you.

This page (together with our Terms and Conditions) explains how we use any personal information you give to us, and the ways in which we protect your privacy. For the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998 (“Act”), the data controller is Visit Belfast (a trading name of Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau) of 9 Donegall Square North, Belfast BT1 5GJ.

The Data Protection Act

Under the Act, we have a legal duty to protect any information we collect from you. We use leading technologies and encryption software to safeguard your data, and keep strict security standards to prevent any unauthorised access to it.

What information do we collect?

We collect information from visitors to www.visitbelfast.com and www.tallshipsbelfast.com (“site”) when visitors: (a) sign up to receive our newsletter; (b) enter competitions via our website; and (c) request information and/or advice from us. We collect site usage information from cookies and log files. This information is collected to help us improve the service we offer.

We may also collect and process the following data about you:

  • Information that you provide by filling in forms on our site. This includes information provided at the time of subscribing to any service, posting material or requesting further services. We may also ask you for information when you enter a competition or promotion sponsored by us, and when you report a problem with our site.

  • We may also ask you to complete surveys that we use for research purposes, although you do not have to respond to them.

Twitter

We collect information (name, Twitter handle and email address) through lead generation cards (Twitter advertising) on Twitter at www.twitter.com/visitbelfast when a user signs up to our mailing list. Users who sign up will receive hotel offers, events, things to do and competitions from Visit Belfast. Users can unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time.

We welcome your feedback. Please contact us.

If you send an email or letter to our information point, asking for information, we may need to contact other government departments to find that information. If your question is technical, we may need to pass it to our technology suppliers. We do not pass on any of your personal information when dealing with your enquiry, unless you have given us permission to do so or we are required to do so to answer your query. Once we have replied to you, we keep a record of your messages for twelve months for reference and audit purposes, after which it is deleted. We will respect your e-mail privacy. You will receive unsolicited mail from us only if you have agreed to this.

IP Addresses

We may collect information about your computer, including where available your IP address, operating system and browser type, for system administration and to report aggregate information to our advertisers. This is statistical data about our users’ browsing actions and patterns, and does not identify any individual.

Where We Store Your Personal Data
