This is a mostly coniferous forest with an area of broadleaved woodland at Cairn Wood. The public is welcome to visit this forest on foot.
In the hilly hinterland of Holywood, this Forestry Service Wood offers walks on well marked paths through a mixture of mature conifers and young trees. It is a haven of serenity, with excellent views towards Bangor and far beyond. Cairnwood is located along the back road leading from Church Road towards Dundonald, and is signposted near Ballysallagh Road.
This area is a prime location for rambling and orienteering. There are well marked trails within Cairn Wood.
Occasionally there may be restricted access to parts of the forest during forestry work. Please pay attention to safety advice on forest signs.
