The Crescent Arts Centre is a diverse community arts centre which serves the people of Belfast and beyond with a variety of arts and cultural activities. In addition to this, the centre runs two annual festivals: The Belfast Book Festival and CityDance.
The Crescent Arts Centre is a diverse community arts centre which has served the population of Belfast and beyond with a wide range of arts and cultural activities for over 30 years.
The wide-ranging programme has been a key and critical provider of culturally diverse activities throughout the centre's existence. Many of those attending classes and workshops in the Crescent have had their first encounter there with a particular art form or activity.
RefurbishmentThe building, which was formerly in a substantial level of disrepair, underwent a £7.2 million refurbishment and reopened in April 2010. This gave the centre much needed additional space to increase the level of activity in terms of workshops and classes, a dedicated theatre space to facilitate the use of the centre as a venue, and encouraged various accredited arts and cultural organisations and individuals to hire the centre for appropriate activities. In addition to this, the Crescent now also offers to a number of carefully-selected tenants the opportunity to have office space, with classes/workshops/event spaces as needed in an appropriate cultural environment, and has the ability to hold exhibitions in the dedicated gallery spaces.
Classes, Workshops and Events
The programme offered by the Crescent embraces the visual arts, many forms of dance and movement, spoken and written word, music in many forms, theatre and drama activities, crafts, and an extensive programme of activities and workshops for young people. The outreach programme has developed and grown, embracing new arts and cultural developments and creating new partnerships.
