Glenara Elite Travel - Game of Thrones Tours

Game of Thrones has become nothing short of a television sensation, the show adapted from author George Martin’s books A Song of Ice and Fire. A key element of the show’s success is the exquisite locations, many of which are based here in Northern Ireland. The Glenara Elite Travel Game of Thrones Tour gives you the chance to see many of these locations, as well as other highlights of Northern Ireland's North Coast; including Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and the Giant’s Causeway, all from luxury coach in a single day.

Description

Game of Thrones Tour 1

Visit a range of location on this Game of Thrones coach tour.

•    Mussenden Temple overlooks Downhill Beach, one of the North Coast’s most beautiful beaches. Both were used in Game of Thrones as the location for the Dragonstone exterior.

•    Dunluce Castle is a medieval castle, originally built in 1500. When you visit this iconic monument perched on the North Antrim coastline, you will discover the dramatic history of Dunluce. Ask about the story of the kitchens falling into the sea! Oh, and how Dunluce has a potato named after it!

•    The Giant’s Causeway was created 60 million years ago and it is renowned for its polygonal columns of layered basalt. The Causeway is also steeped in myth and legend. People say that the rocks were carved by a giant called Finn McCool!

•    Ballintoy Bay is the real-world location of Lordsport (the port of Pyke in the Iron Islands). The production team of the series chose this wonderful place to be the port of Pyke, where Theon Greyjoy sets foot back on the Iron Islands, admires his ship and has some trouble with his crew.

•    Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, suspended almost 100 ft. (30 m) above sea level, first erected by salmon fishermen 350 years ago. If you are bold enough to cross the 65 ft (20 m) bridge, stretching from the mainland to 'Rocky Island', you will be rewarded with fantastic views of Scotland. Nearby Larrybane was the dramatic spot chosen for Renly Baratheon’s camp in Season 2.

•    The Dark Hedges might possibly be the most beautiful avenue of beech trees in the world and the one of the most photographed. Back in Westeros, the Dark Hedges are the Kingsroad, north of King's Landing. Disguised as a boy, Arya escapes from the city with Yoren, Gendry, Hot Pie and all the other people who are to join the Night's Watch.

Cost: £35 per person

Game of Thrones Tour 2 – Doors and Food Tour

Storm Gertrude struck the North Coast of Ireland in 2016 felling two trees from the epic Game of Thrones® filming locations known as the Dark Hedges. The wood was used to carve 10 intricately designed pub doors, each one telling the story of an episode in Game of Thrones® season 6.
From Cairncastle to the Glens of Antrim, via the Dark Hedges and Cushendun Caves, each door has been placed close to a different filming location in Northern Ireland.

Glenara Elite Travel offers you a chance to see some of these carved pieces on their unique evening tour full of fun, food and merriment. Visiting four of the ten locations, you will get to sample local cuisine and have the odd tipple or two while having the opportunity to get up close to these wonderful works of art.

•    Location 1 - Owens Bar in Limavady near Downhill Strand or as it’s known to us GOT fans Dragonstone Beach.  While studying this beautiful door guests will be treated to a starter of some local Bread & Oils

•    Location 2 - Fullerton Arms located close to Ballintoy Harbour. Alongside viewing this spectacular door, you will be treated to a Homemade Seafood Chowder and Wheaten Bread.

•    Location 3 - Gracehill House located beside the now famous Dark Hedges. This stunning location will provide a hearty meaty platter to satisfy any remaining hunger pangs.

•    Location 4 - Mary McBride’s in Cushendun. On this final stop guests can relax and top off the many culinary treats they have sampled with a variety of local cheeses and chutneys with a glass of Rathlin Red Ale.

Cost: £50 per person
