Loaf Café and Bakery
Situated directly across from the Royal Victoria Hospital on Belfast’s Grosvenor Road, Loaf Café and Bakery serves great coffee and freshly-made, delicious food.
Less than 15 minutes walk from the city centre, it’s the perfect ‘off the beaten track’ meeting spot for locals and tourists alike, providing veggie, gluten-free and kids’ menu options along with free Wifi and phone charging facilities.
Sister café of The Bobbin in Belfast City Hall, Loaf is a social enterprise that uses its profits to help the work of NOW Group, which provides support for people with barriers to employment and learning.
Popular items on the menu include the famous Loaf sausage roll with secret recipe relish, soup of the day with mini wheaten bread and, of course, the tempting traybakes made by our in-house bakers. Loaf’s soups and stews are gluten-free and there are also vegetarian options available. We proudly serve Suki Tea and Ristretto coffee.
The café operates an ‘order in advance’ service for its busy customers. Place your order before 10.30am and it will be ready for you to ‘Grab & Go’ at lunch-time.
Loaf Café and Bakery opened for business in June 2015 on the derelict site of a former, family-owned bar. Now redeveloped into a bright yellow building that has already become something of a local landmark, Loaf Café and Bakery has a modern yet comfortable interior spanning two floors that has strived to maintain links to the family bar that once stood there. The cafe’s table tops were created from wood salvaged from the old pub’s flooring and some of the old light fixtures were saved too.
Choosing to dine with Loaf not only guarantees you great food and great service, your money will go towards supporting people with learning difficulties. Loaf’s profits are reinvested back into the work of its parent social enterprise NOW Group, which helps people with barriers to employment and learning to gain qualifications and life/work experience, supporting them to move into jobs with a future.
Loaf’s café kitchens are accredited training sites providing training and work experience placements for NOW Group’s catering trainees with learning difficulties.
Working in partnership with The Conservation Volunteers NI to cut down on waste, all cardboard packaging, tea bags and leaves, and coffee grounds are donated by Loaf Café and Bakery to the nearby Grosvenor Community Garden. NOW Group’s Volunteer Service help out at the garden once-a-week and in return, the café receives a small selection of fresh vegetables grown half a mile away from the kitchen.
As well as running two thriving cafes, Loaf also runs an outside catering business, delivering delicious food straight to doors across the greater Belfast area. Whether it’s an office meeting or a larger event, Loaf Catering delivers. For more details, visit www.loafcatering.com.
