Ulster Hall

Ulster Hall

Built in 1862, the Ulster Hall has an illustrious past. In its first 50 years it played host to Charles Dickens, Ellen Terry, Lord Randolph Churchill and Caruso.

It has seen major boxing champions come and go, tracked popular music from Ruby Murray to punk, dance and beyond.

Description

Throughout the Second World War it played a significant role in entertaining American troops billeted on our shores.

Since then it has seen major boxing champions come and go, tracked popular music through the Ruby Murray years to punk, dance and beyond.

It has been the Belfast home of great rock music, from its favourite son Rory Gallagher to the world debut of Stairway to Heaven, by Led Zeppelin, in 1971.

Recently refurbished, it now provides a home for the Ulster Orchestra and their programme of world class concerts.

Cafe Grand Dame, located in the Ulster Hall foyer, serves refreshments and snacks throughout the day.
A bar located within the Group Space on the first floor is also open during events.

Facilities include:

  • Grand Hall,
  • Group Space (minor hall),
  • Meeting rooms,
  • Box office,
  • Cafe,
  • Bar,
  • Art gallery,
  • Interpretative exhibition and
  • Outreach programme.
