Belfast International Arts Festival brings you one of the world’s great symphony orchestras under its Artistic Director, Valery Gergiev.
The Mariinsky Orchestra performs this all-Russian programme, culminating in Shostakovich’s epic Symphony number 11, whose almost film-like score describes the momentous events of 1905 in St Petersburg. The first half of the programme is dedicated to Russia’s national poet, Alexander Pushkin, and includes Rimsky-Korsakov’s famous Flight of the Bumble Bee from the opera, The Tale of Tsar Saltan.
