Traditional Irish Bread Making Class (23 Aug)
You are invited into Tracey's Irish farmhouse kitchen by the Shores of Strangford Lough in an area of outstanding natural beauty, half an hour from Belfast City Centre.
This event will take place at The Stables, 52A Ballymorran road, Killinchy, BT23 6UD, County Down.
Upon arrival you will be offered a warm Irish welcome and you will start with a cup of coffee or tea and some homemade sweet treats. You will start the session with a traditional Irish fruit soda cake. This is a sweet treat and is delicious with lots of homemade Irish butter.
While the fruit soda cake is baking in the stove oven, you will make some potato bread or fadge as the Irish call it. You will add fillings of your choice to the potato mix – scallions or cheese. You will also have a chance to make soda bread – Tracey's favourite! Thera are various alternatives for the soda bread - which you may or not add as you please – treacle, currants and sultanas or cinnamon. Recipes may be varied to keep it interesting!
Traybakes are a typical sweet treat from Northern Ireland – they come from this area. During the class, you will make a delicious Traybake which will be served with a nice strong coffee or cup of the local brew!
After you have kneaded, rolled mixed and baked these breads and traybakes you will enjoy a tasting session and another tea or coffee – with the award winning handmade butter, homemade jam, and dulse butter. This will be a feast Irish style!
At the end, you will take home a bag filled with your handmade products and all of the recipes that you've made in Tracey's house.
