Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia Northern Ireland

Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia Northern Ireland

Description

The Giro d'Italia Big Start legacy event returns to Northern Ireland on Sunday 4 June 2017.

Like 2015 and 2016, the 2017 event will be a special experience with fully closed, policed roads, two challenging routes and a post ride party with Italian cuisine, beer and wine.

The Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia Northern Ireland weekend is fast becoming one of the must-ride sportives in the UK and Ireland. The event is rider-focused and the organisers understand what is important to Gran Fondistas and aim to deliver a special experience.

Richie Porte, Gianni Bugno and Stephen Roche have been part of the ride and big name stars will be announced in the coming weeks who will help celebrate the 100th edition of the Giro d’Italia with some special events.

The Giro d’Italia trophy, Trofeo Senza Fine will be on site at the Giro Expo and will be available for riders and fans to get their photos taken with this iconic sports trophy.

The Giro Expo will take place Saturday 3 June and Sunday 4 June. Rider registration, Food NI vendors and post ride pasta party will all be buzzing over the whole weekend.

There are two cycling routes which both depart from Stormont Estate:

  • Mourne Route (175km)
The 175km loop will pass over mountains and hills steeped in Irish history, with the opportunity to view the beauty of the country from the highest mountain peaks to the loughs and sea.
  • Strangford Route (58km)
The 58km route will prove challenging and enjoyable for all levels of cycling enthusiasts. If you are new to cycling events or want to set yourself a personal challenge to help boost your fitness, then this route is for you.
