Description

As a kaleidoscope of colour fades in the Garden, it makes way for a burst of autumnal orange. Feel the air getting colder and the wind getting stronger while exploring the garden during its seasonal transformation. Rowallane Garden has plenty of things to see and do, from nature walks and family fun, you will find lots of reasons to get out and enjoy nature.

Spooky Plants

Explore the garden and discover a range of bewitching plants and trees just waiting to be found and enjoyed. But be careful…some of them are poisonous! On this self-led trail, you will discover exactly why some of these plants and trees are not for the feint hearted.

Forgotten Forklore Trail

Every tree has a story! Trees were important in ancient Ireland and they were the foundation for early laws in Europe. The most sacred were known as 'noble trees.' These trees were portals to the spirit world and a doorway into the "otherworld", the land of the fairies.

Can you imagine the tales they might tell? Explore and get to know these Noble trees. Find clues in their leaves, bark and branches to uncover their tale.

Identifying Leaves and Seeds

Leaves and seeds are starting to fall all around us, but do you know which trees they have come from? Explore the garden in search of different leaves and seeds, examine their shape, size and colour and try to identify which type of tree your discoveries have come from.

Need a little help? Look out for our identification stumps across the garden during your visit. Here you will find a variety of different leaves and seeds you would expect to come across on your walk.

To avoid disappointment, booking at busier times such as weekends, school holidays and bank holidays is strongly recommended. Visit nationaltrust.org.uk/rowallane-garden for more information and booking.
