Description

The Magic is in the History! Visit Clifton House for a special children’s Crafty Christmas in the Poor House as you are transported back in time to see what Christmas was like 200 years ago.

Hear what life was like for the children of the Poor House at Christmas time including traditions, festivities and events that would have taken place over 200 years ago. Within the new exhibition, you can see what clothes children were given to wear, learn about the work they would have been made to do and the food they were given to eat.  We guarantee you will have no complaints about dinner options that night!

At Clifton House, you can look forward to experiencing an immersive augmented reality app, where you can have a peek into the Children’s nursery - yes, children were expected to go to school on Christmas Day. For the children that misbehaved and risked being put on Santa’s naughty list, you can take a glimpse into the ‘black hole’ where they were put for bad behaviour.

At the end of the one-hour tour, you will get to try your hand at a traditional period Christmas craft, for the children to take home, facilitated by Kathleen’s Attic. Under the twinkly lights of the Christmas tree, while your kids are enjoying some crafting, there will be mince pies and refreshments for the adults to enjoy.
