Description

Led by the effervescent guide John Bradbury, this tour is a quintessential Victorian escapade through the graveyard of Friar’s Bush and on to the nearby Botanical Gardens.

Incorporating the notable “Donegals” who owned and ran the city until modern times, tales of soldiers, subversives and the city’s celebrities, linked to the graveyard and its neighbouring gardens and glasshouses this will be a trip back to a more flamboyant era. John’s potted history of Victorian Belfast will be filled with interesting history, stories and of course gossip of the times, stopping off at the most remarkable graves of substance before a tour to and through Victorian Botanic.

All profit from Cairde na Cille (Friends of the Churchyard) tours currently go towards the restoration of this graveyard. Cairde na Cille are the official non-profit Community Interest Company who have been painstakingly restoring this graveyard from spring 2023 as well as carrying out all maintenance of the graveyard pathways and grounds enabling tours to take place. At the time of writing Cairde na Cille receive no public funding towards their restoration work or their tours.

The ground is uneven in parts so care must be taken. It is fine for walking sticks but may be difficult for wheelchairs.
