Home Front Festival
Description
Spend your day in the picturesque seaside town of Whitehead where you will be transported back to the 1940’s.
In every area of the 5-gallery museum, there will be something for you to see, learn about, and enjoy, from period vehicles to war time soldiers.
The Home Front Festival will begin at 10am, with the opening being conducted by the Veterans Pipe and Drum band (who will play again at 1pm). Train rides on site will be operational from 10.30am – 4pm (excluding 1pm) on the hour and half hour. This is included in your ticket price and trains will fill on a first come first served basis.
Throughout the day there will be stalls on the platform and plenty of interactive wartime exhibits on show including Home Guard, US and German zones, military vehicles, period children’s activities and much more.
From 1pm, get your toes tapping on the platform with tunes from the era by the one and only singing trio, The Victory Rollers. Try learning some moves with members of Swing Belfast and learn how to style your hair 40’s style with our very own hairdresser. But be careful. We have heard that there will be a spv in your midst, trying to sell all sorts of black market products. Thankfully, the Home Guard are on hand to help control that rapscallion!
So, enjoy a day of fun at our very first Home Front Festival.
Platform 3 café will be open for hot and cold food and refreshments (whilst rations remain!).
Note, this is a static event. Although you will be hauled by an engine under steam, you will not be transported off our site.
- Admission £7 - £10
