In The Name Of The Son | Green Shoot Productions
Description
If you thought the Oscar-nominated movie IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER about the wrongful imprisonment of the Guildford 4’s Gerry Conlon was a great story, you won’t believe how his life panned out AFTER he was released from prison!
IN THE NAME OF THE SON explores Conlon’s incredible journey into ‘freedom’ as he received and spent over £1million pounds. He became a cause-célèbre at the Hollywood Oscars – a hilarious toilet scene in the play. He was welcomed in the corridors of power in Washington and ran in the same circles as Daniel Day Lewis, Johnny Depp and Shane McGowan. Conlon seemed to have it all. But struggling with guilt over the death of his father in prison, his lifestyle quickly descended into hell. He was soon hooked on crack-cocaine and ended up searching bins in the backstreets of London’s West End for food.
What emerges from the darkness though, is Conlon’s resilience and his eventual life-changing recovery to beat his demons and become a world-renowned campaigner against miscarriages of justice similar to his own. It’s no exaggeration to say that Gerry Conlon lived ten lives in one. An emotional roller-coaster ride that left audiences breathless when it played in Northern Ireland, The Edinburgh Fringe and The Irish Arts Festival in Auckland, New Zealand.
