Description

One of Belfast’s most famous artistic couples, James Allen and Sophie Aghajamian, have an exciting new online exhibition available on ArtisAnn Gallery's website.

ArtisAnn Gallery’s co-owner Dr Ann McVeigh says,

“With most of us having to stay at home, the ArtisAnn Gallery are making all our artworks available online. We are delighted that includes this fabulous exhibition by James and Sophie.”

Sophie Aghajanian was born in Palestine, of Armenian descent, and studied art in London and Brighton before moving to Belfast. She has shown her work nationally and internationally, including recently in New York in 2019. She is an exceptional printmaker and painter whose atmospheric artworks are held in many important collections.

James Allen studied art in Belfast and Brighton and went on to teach art at Goldsmiths School of Art in London. He returned to Northern Ireland to help establish the Belfast Print Workshop and has been a renowned printmaker and painter for many decades. He has exhibited widely, including in Japan in 2019. His works are held in a wide range of collections around the world, including the Ulster Museum, Arts Council and the Telfair Museum of Georgia.

Both artists are long-standing members of the Royal Ulster Academy.
