Screening and Q&A with architect Mark Hackett, Green Party politician Mal O'Hara and architect/researcher Agustina Martire.

Up until the 1960s, Sailortown Belfast was a thriving community that housed thousands of families who worked in maritime trade, factories, the docks and harbour, until it was almost completely demolished in the 1970s by a road works programme. The area today is home to a much smaller community of people, but continues to be a spiritual home to many who lived and worked there in the past.

From 2018-2020, at the invitation of Household Belfast, artist Sol Archer worked in this historical neighbourhood with elderly former residents, new migrant communities, local grassroots organisations, and children and young people living in local social housing. The resulting film not only the earth we share is a tender portrait of a neighbourhood that has been utterly transformed by decades of development and looks at how storytelling, identity, humour and community can act as agents of neighbourhood resistance.
