Description

Craft NI is delighted to host the first group exhibition from the Association for Contemporary Jewellers and Silversmiths NI (ACJNI). Pinned presents the work of 23 local jewellers and silversmiths who have each responded to the exhibition’s theme to produce one-of-a-kind pieces beyond the scope of their usual commission or production work.

Participating makers include Anne Earles Boylan, Stuart Cairns, Robyn Galway and Celine Traynor and the exhibition features over 50 variations on the idea of a brooch, with versions in both precious and non-precious materials. Traditionally set stones contrast with re-purposed vintage tins and toys, precision geometry meets abstract forms. Gold, silver and gemstones sit alongside found objects in unexpected interpretations that demonstrate technical accomplishment, innovation and creativity.

ACJNI is a collective of local makers who started to meet last year and have since formed a regional branch of the Association of Contemporary Jewellery. Their aim is to promote awareness of contemporary jewellery and to represent ACJ members here in Northern Ireland. NI has a strong tradition of jewellery making across a wide range of styles and this group’s work offers a glimpse into just some of the quality and diversity right on our doorsteps.

Perfectly timed ahead of an extraordinary Christmas season, all the works in Pinned are for sale.  With prices starting under £70, the show offers a wonderful opportunity to select a unique piece and support a local business.

In light of ongoing restrictions, all the works in Pinned have been professionally photographed, so as well as being on display in the Craft NI Gallery, the exhibition can be viewed online at craftni.org and via ACJNI on Instagram.

Social distancing measures are in place in the gallery for the safety of visitors and staff. These include restricted numbers, one way system, perspex screens, hand sanitiser and additional cleaning processes in place.
