Description

Richard Croft celebrates a lifetime of print making with a new show at the ArtisAnn Gallery in Belfast.

Born in London in 1935, and educated at Bromle and Brighton Colleges of Art, Richard Croft moved to Belfast in 1959 to teach art – firstly at Dunlambert School in Fortwilliam and, latterly, as Head of the Art Department at Annadale Grammar School until 1986 when he ‘retired’ to paint full–time in his studio in Dundrum, Co. Down.

He was a founder member of Group 63 and the Octagon Gallery and President of the Royal Ulster Academy from 1997 to 2000. Over the past fifty years he has exhibited regularly throughout Ireland and his work is represented in public and private collections around the world.

The majority of prints in this show are relief prints (lino cuts) which have been made in Richard’s studio on a large press which was built in London in 1930 for the American Artist Mark Tobey.
