Description

Ho ho ho! It's that time of year again where Santa and his elves take over a platform at Whitehead Excursion Station. Hop aboard a vintage steam train at Belfast Lanyon Place and enjoy a leisurely journey to a special station where Santa awaits.

This year Santa has a new and exclusive home on the platform. His elves will be on hand to give presents to all children and there will be an opportunity for family photos to be taken beside Santa in his enchanting snow globe. So, join in for a magical day out and expect a few surprises along the way.

What’s included?

  • A journey by steam in a fully decorated carriage/compartment from Belfast Lanyon to Whitehead and return, the only steam train experience available on the island of Ireland
  • An explanation of your journey at each seating arrangement
  • A high quality present for all children travelling
  • A photo opportunity with Santa in his exclusive new home on the platform
  • A warm drink and mince pie for all adult passengers
  • Elves to take care of you on the platform
  • Music on the platform
  • The opportunity to purchase additional refreshments at Platform 3 café and to purchase gifts from the gift shop on the platform
  • A 20% discount voucher to use at a later date for entrance to Whitehead Railway Museum
  • Entrance into a draw to win a mainline excursion of your choice for up to 4 people in 2022

Please arrive at Belfast Lanyon Place at least 30 minutes before your train departs in order to allow for check in (when you will receive your allocated table) and safe socially distanced travel to your seat. Remember to wear warm clothes as some of the Santa experience is outdoors.

Elf and Safety first!

The safety of passengers, volunteers and staff is a top priority, whilst not detracting from the brilliant day out.

If you have had contact with anyone infected with Covid-19 or have any symptoms please don’t travel.

Please be aware that due to Covid-19 restrictions, the toilets onboard will not be available, nor will the dining car. Toilets at both stations and café at Whitehead Railway Museum will be open. Whitehead Railway Museum will not be open when the Santa Experience is running.

Social distancing will be required on board - please remain at your allocated table for the duration of the journey. According to NI Executive guidance, face coverings must be worn unless exempt.

As train storage space is limited please avoid bringing prams/buggies on board. Regrettably these 1960’s carriages are unsuitable for wheelchair passengers.
