Description

Come to Whitehead Railway Museum for a family fun day to celebrate all things Guinness! You can visit our award winning museum, hop on board a historic carriage pulled by our little Guinness engine for a short train ride and view our recently restored Guinness Grain Van for the first time. We’ll have an activity trail for families and some live music on the platform (12 – 2)! All visitors on the day will be entered into a draw to win a family ticket to be redeemed on one of our Santa Event due to run later this year.

The 504 Guinness Grain Van has been lovingly restored by our volunteers, funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund. 504 is a bogie van built by the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) in 1911 to transport large casks of Guinness stout from their Dublin brewery and was later converted to carry grain to the brewery. Our little 3BG engine was built for shunting at the Dublin brewery as well, which of course is how she earned her name, “Guinness”. This is the engine which will be working on the day. This will be one of the only opportunities to see the Van out on the rails and the first time it will have been on the track since it was withdrawn in 1965.

Tickets are priced for train rides as above. Tickets for the Museum are purchased separately and are priced as follows - £7 per adult, £6 concession, £5 per adult, and £20 per family. All activities on site for this day are included in the price of museum entry.

Please, wherever possible book tickets for timeslots in advance to assist us managing our site during the pandemic.
