Whitehead Railway Museum is delighted to announce the welcome return of their Steam Train Rides. Come down to the picturesque seaside town of Whitehead to experience the magic of steam.
You’ll climb on board at the 1907 platform and enjoy a 10 minute train ride up and down the site. Hauled by the vintage steam engine and sitting in a carriage which a certain famous wizard would feel at home in, you will be transported to a bygone era. This is an experience like none other provided on the island of Ireland. Your day will certainly be one that you will not forget!
Timeslots to be 11.00, 11.30, 12.00, 13.00, 13.30, 14.00, 14.30, 15.00, 15.30 and 16.00 (Lunch break between 12.30-13.00)
Please note that the train is scheduled to leave promptly on time. Please arrive five minutes before your timeslot. Come directly to the Whitehead Railway Museum Station Building and follow the signage for ‘Steam Train Rides.’
Upon arrival you will be asked to show your ticket (digital or physical) and you will be allocated your compartment. You will be permitted to board about five minutes before departure.
Compartments cannot exceed the maximum capacity booked. Children must be included in your total numbers.
Whitehead Railway Museum has awarded the ‘Good to Go’ industry standard mark, certifying that they are adhering to the respective Government and public health guidance, have carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment and have the required processes in place.
The comfort and wellbeing of our volunteers and visitors is of utmost importance to Whitehead Railway Museum and so they have introduced a number of new measures.
- To maintain social distancing measures all visitors must book online in advance.
- After each train ride takes place, every compartment is wiped down with sanitiser spray. There is enhanced cleaning on site in the café and toilets as well.
- Hand sanitiser stations are provided for you to use throughout the site.
- Guests are asked to maintain social distancing whilst using facilities.
- Some areas may be restricted, due to social distancing regulations.
- There are Perspex screens to protect visitors, staff and volunteers.
- There is clear and frequent visitor information signage and floor markings on site.
If you are feeling unwell or experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 it is asked that you and members of your party or family group to not attend the railway museum.
Please respect social distancing measures whilst on site. There is a great deal of space so as to allow for 1-2m distance between visitors.
As per advice from the NI Executive face masks are now mandatory in enclosed spaces, therefore you are advised that everyone who can wear a face covering should do so. All staff and volunteers will be wearing appropriate PPE.
Please refrain from touching your face.
Wash your hands often and use the hand sanitisation stations available as much as possible.
Food and Drink
The beautiful Platform 3 cafe is back for business as well. Step back to a bygone era in our quaint cafe, enjoying a cool drink at the outside picnic tables if the sun is shining.
Please note there are restricted numbers of visitors, in order to allow for appropriate social distancing.
While contactless payment is advised, cash payments in GBP Sterling are also accepted.
Public toilets are available onsite, including additional toilets to comply with Covid regulations. Please follow the guidance in place for everyone’s safety when using toilets.
