Description

An on the water experience at The Ulster Transport Museum which will get you thinking about surfing and sustainability!

This September, The Ulster Transport Museum are delighted to bring you Celtic Wave; A History of Surfing in Ireland. The exhibition explores how the sport of surfing began in Ireland in the 1960s and its growth in popularity. Hear from the surfers themselves and see objects associated with surfing some of the largest waves on our coastline. To reinforce this connection with the sea and our local environment, the exhibition also has a focus on sustainability through the use of recycled and sustainable materials where possible.

To celebrate all things on the water we are giving you the opportunity to not only enjoy this exhibition but to get out on Belfast Lough with the team from SUP HUB NI for Autumnal paddleboard fun. The session begins as you make your way on to the coastal path through the Museum gate at the rear of the site and from there an hour of craic awaits.

Once you are on the water the team will point out local wildlife, tell you stories of the history of the area and let you see the beauty of the lough from an on the water perspective. You will learn how SUP HUB NI are making sustainable choices and take part in an on the water litter pick!

Afterwards you will have access to The Ulster Transport Museum so grab some lunch and then enjoy the rest of your day. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a guided paddle from this part of the coastal path.
