Description

History & Hospitality in the Heart of Belfast.

Step off the bustling streets of Belfast city centre and into one of its most historic and atmospheric entry — Joy’s Entry, home to Henry’s & The Jailhouse. Adjoining sister venues offering a unique blend of local heritage, traditional food and drink, live music, and that famous Irish hospitality.

A Taste of Belfast’s Past

With over 100 years as a licensed premises, Henry’s has long been a favourite with locals and visitors alike. Clover Group restored the venue in 2018 and named after Henry Joy McCracken, the famous Belfast-born United Irishman, who played a leading role in the 1798 rebellion.

Located in Joy’s Entry, one of the city’s original 17th-century lanes, Henry’s brings the past to life with its exposed brickwork, reclaimed materials, and period features. A visit here is a nod to Belfast’s rich history, paired with an excellent selection of local beers, Irish whiskey, and traditional Irish dishes served daily.

Enjoy everything from hearty lunches and dinner classics to Sunday roasts and pub favourites, with menus showcasing the best of local produce.

Live music from Thursday, Friday and Saturday, plus Irish Dancers every Saturday evening.

The Jailhouse – A Hidden Gem with a Legendary Story

Next door, discover The Jailhouse, a venue wrapped in legend and character. Believed to be the site where Henry Joy McCracken was imprisoned before his execution at nearby Cornmarket, this once-forgotten building was brought back to life as part of the Joys Entry restoration project.

Original iron bars, timber beams, and stone walls remain intact, creating a striking backdrop for your visit. Today, The Jailhouse offers a vibrant setting for cocktails, DJ sets, and laid-back dining, while preserving the tales of its storied past.

Keep an eye out for seasonal installations throughout Joy’s Entry, the city’s most instagramable entry! Also, look out for the Blue Plaque honouring Francis Joy, founder of the Belfast News Letter and grandfather of Henry Joy McCracken.
