John Long's is the longest established fish and chip shop in Belfast.
John Long's is a ‘chippie' with history and legacy of serving good food in Belfast. At the end of 1914, John Long converted part of his grocery shop on Mill Street to sell fish and chips. To cope with demand he then moved his restaurant to the present site an old ‘stitching' factory and warehouse (allegedly haunted) on Athol Street, close to the city centre. One hundred years and only two owners later, John Long's is still a Belfast institution.
John Long's used to be a bit of a local secret, but the word has got out. They have had a few of those actor types drop in for supper: Brendan Fraser, Sean Bean and Take That. Eamon Holmes even said that if he only had a couple of days to live, he'd end up at John Long's for his last meal. Dara O'Briain, the Irish comedian and television presenter, also popped in to try the world renowned fish supper.
John Copeland, the present owner, is immensely proud to build on the heritage of this famous restaurant and serve locally sourced fresh fish (with or without batter) and chips to locals and tourists alike.
