Description

The 2018/19 Finale brings together two recurring themes from across the Season – symphonic pieces on a grand scale and composers taking new and radical approaches to their work.

Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 is the first time the soloist is given completely different entry music to the orchestra, creating an entirely new style of dialogue between piano and orchestra. This dramatic concerto will be performed by the fantastic pianist Inon Barnatan.

The concert concludes with Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. A work of intense emotion and epic scope, it is perhaps best known for its glorious fourth movement, which formed part of the soundtrack for the film Death in Venice.
