Description

During his career at Oxford University, CS Lewis regularly took part in Socratic Debates, engaging with the most pressing theological and cultural issues of his day. In the spirit of these debates, a team of gifted speakers will be tackling the motion 'This house believes the church should support same-sex marriage'.

The Crescent is delighted to host a Socratic Debate, which is part of the CS Lewis Festival 2017.
During his career at Oxford University, CS Lewis regularly took part in Socratic Debates, engaging with some of the most pressing theological and cultural issues of his day. In the spirit of these Socratic Debates, a team of gifted speakers - Michael Wardlow (Equality Commission), Fidelma Carolan (Trade Union and LGBT activist), David Smyth (Evangelical Alliance) and Tracey Harkin (Iona Institute), ably chaired by William Crawley (BBC), will be tackling the motion 'This house believes the church should support same-sex marriage'. It promises to be an interesting, thought-provoking and very timely debate.
