Belfast has plenty of walking trails in the city centre which are worth discovering. Retrace the steps of Belfast’s famous figures on George Best, CS Lewis and Van Morrison walking trails, take an audio tour of the city centre or follow the Titanic Trail and Maritime Mile into a bygone shipbuilding era.

Titanic Trail

Uncover the story of the Titanic as you journey from the Titanic Memorial Garden at Belfast City Hall, through the city to the Titanic Quarter where you’ll learn about the Harland & Wolff Drawing Offices, SS Nomadic and much more. The Titanic Trail is a free, self-guided walking trail marked on a map you can download to your phone or pick up from the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre. Maritime Mile

The Maritime Mile captures the heritage of Belfast’s waterfront, running from Sailortown past the Big Fish, SS Nomadic, Titanic Belfast, Titanic Slipways, Great Light and much more. It represents one navigational mile of water and 10 kilometres of accessible waterfront, where you can walk, cycle, run and play in the footsteps of giants. Follow the Glass of Thrones Trail along the way too!

 

CS Lewis Square Interactive Trail

Become an explorer on the CS Lewis Square Interactive Trail, where your mission is to find answers to mysterious clues hidden in familiar landmarks. Developed by EastSide Greenways this family friendly trail – which celebrates 70 years of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – transports you to Narnia in east Belfast’s CS Lewis Square and includes fun activities perfect for kids. Download the trail map.

 

Linen Quarter

Located behind Belfast City Hall, and stretching to Shaftesbury Square in the South, the Linen Quarter covers what was once the headquarters of Ireland’s global linen industry. Take a walk through the historic district, known for it’s many pocket parklet’s and urban biodiversity initiatives, and stop for some top-quality coffee and cuisine along the way.

 

Cathedral Quarter

Immerse yourself in the Cathedral Quarter’s vibrant array of pubs and restaurants and discover the unique public art and architecture among the cobbled streets. See the coloured hanging umbrellas in Commercial Court and an abundance of street art throughout the district. Pick up a takeaway coffee and bring little ones to play in the Cathedral Gardens – a colourful park full of interactive and musical attractions next to the breath-taking Belfast Cathedral.

 

George Best Self-Guided Trail

This trail, developed by the Connswater Community Greenway, gives you the chance to discover east Belfast as world-famous footballer George Best would have seen it. You’ll see his local school and playing fields, the chippie where he went for a fish supper, the cinema where he watched the most recent films and the ice cream parlour where he’d get a ‘slider’ or a cone.

 

Van Morrison Trail

Go on a journey through the east Belfast of Van Morrison’s youth. This trail, developed by Connswater Community Greenaway, offers a glimpse of some of the places the Belfast-born singer knew as a child growing up. You can download a trail map here – look out for QR codes at some locations. Simply scan each QR code on your phone to download a short song extract related to that location!
