Right in the heart of the buzzing Cathedral Quarter, Coppi is Belfast's first cichetti bacari restaurant inspired by those found in Venice.
Coppi has proved to be hugely popular since opening in 2012 and offers a great selection of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine served in the coolest of surroundings. They serve a range of cichetti (Italian style tapas) starters, main courses, pizzette and homemade pasta and desserts freshly made in the restaurant every day.
Sundays at Coppi are proving to be hit with diners with special sharing roasts such as Tuscan style grilled chicken, duck fat roast potatoes, creamy cauliflower and leek gratin, balsamic glazed carrots and chicken jus. Or how about roast pork porchetta or a delicious dish of stuffed rabbit and pancetta with all the trimmings? Each roast is designed to be shared between two and offers fantastic value; the ideal excuse to spend a Sunday gathered around a table with family and friends.
You don't have to wait until Sunday however to be wowed by lunch. Alongside the a la carte menu there is also offer an amazing value for money 3-7-3 menu. Choices of starters for only £3, main courses for £7 and desserts for only £3. Available from noon until 4pm, Monday to Friday, it is the perfect way to brighten up your day with a quick, tasty and affordable meal.
Vegans and vegetarians are well catered for at Coppi with a dedicated vegan menu available every day with a wealth of choices on offer, including cichetti, pizzette, starters, pasta, risotto, main courses and desserts.
The bar area which offers counter seating and high rise tables is perfect for a light lunch or a casual evening meal, whilst the spacious restaurant area, with a mixture of leather booths and banquette seating is able to cope with parties of all sizes. The restaurant boasts an outdoor seating area for those sunny days. With an extensive and quirky wine list, Italian beers Peroni and Moretti served alongside local beers and ciders, and a stunning selection of cocktails Coppi is a great spot for a night out.

Coppi is blessed with the sheer brilliance of Tony O’Neill. The adherence to quality ingredients — meat from Peter Hannan’s, which must surely be the best in Ireland — is rewarded with excellent cooking and the result is an experience which demands applause.

Coppi, launched by a veteran Belfast chef and restaurateur called Tony O’Neill. It looks like a Jamie’s Italian on steroids, all heavy wood tables and white tiling. The intention is similar. It is meant to be a casual place, lighting sparklers rather than fireworks… terrific charred breads, and a selection of steaks supplied by the extraordinary local meat producer Peter Hannan, who ages beef from shorthorns fed on clover, in a chiller room walled in Himalayan salt. Yes, really. Apparently the salt acts as an antibiotic.
I’ve tried the beef, and it is something special. It has a depth of flavour and dense texture without that “something just died in the corner” flavour you get with less-cared-for muscle. Best of all at Coppi was a stonking duck pasta dish, for a very reasonable £12.50, of fat ravioli stuffed with a fine ducky ragu, overlaid with more of the same, the whole spun through with fat flakes of crisped duck skin. It was deep and outrageous and completely unfinishable. Naturally I finished it.
