Description

RE[envision] our green spaces through this Nature Walk + Talk at Divis Mountain.

Green spaces are at the heart of our community, offering more than just beautiful scenery. They provide essential areas for relaxation, recreation, and social interaction, contributing to the well-being of our community. Divis Mountain is a hill and expansive moorland located northwest of Belfast in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Standing at 1,568 feet, it is the highest peak among the Belfast Hills which can be explored through a range of walking trails. The mountain stretches northward to the Antrim Plateau, sharing its geological composition of a basaltic layer atop limestone and lias clay. These offer access to the largest urban green space in the Belfast Council area and provide stunning views over the City and beyond. The landscape is unique and valuable, comprising of a mosaic of grassland and heathland bog and home to a host of wildlife and archaeological remains.

In partnership with Outscape NI and The National Trust, you are invited to join for this bespoke nature walk and expert talk at one of Belfast’s unique locations. Discover this gem just a stone’s throw away from our bustling metropolis while empowering yourself with knowledge on the benefit is provides our community and reassure yourself that there are great initiatives underway such as the Divis Project.

This activity includes a nature walk and an inspiring session with Elizabeth Annett from Outscape. This will start with deep dive into the fascinating process of collecting data on greenspaces. She’ll reveal the insights this data uncovers and share Outscape’s exciting vision for the future, including groundbreaking collaborations with the National Trust and DAERA.

Following that, Andrew Corkill from the National Trust will take the stage to explore how greenspace data is driving transformative projects like the ongoing Divis Project. He’ll give a behind-the-scenes look at what’s involved in these ambitious efforts and highlight the incredible benefits that are set to enrich local communities.
