Description
This exhibition of paintings by Sean McGibbon exhibition takes as its theme the young athletes who make up Belfast's amateur boxing scene.
For this exhibition he collaborated with two Belfast amateur boxing clubs (the Midland Boxing Club in Tiger's Bay and the Immaculata Boxing Club in the Lower Falls area) to produce a series of works celebrating the status the sport holds within the city. He spent a number of weeks with both clubs observing and gathering reference material he later developed into finished works. The result was a series of studies in pastels, oils and watercolours which capture not just the energy, enthusiasm and vitality of the young sportspeople he encountered but which also find quieter moments of self-reflection, watching and resting.
Sean is a Belfast based painter who works in a variety of media but mainly pastels and oils. He has received the Pastel Society of Ireland annual exhibition awards for his landscapes, seascapes and portraits.
His work has been shown over multiple years at the Royal Ulster Academy annual show at the Ulster Museum. In the most recent year he won the ArtisAnn Gallery Prize at the exhibition.
All artworks are available to buy.
You can also buy art from this exhibition through the Own Art scheme which gives you an interest-free loan over 10 months (and you still get to take the art home immediately the exhibition ends).
