Description

Templemore Baths is the only remaining Victorian bath-house on the island of Ireland. Explore this heritage gem in Belfast by guided tour or self-guided visit.

In nineteenth-century and early twentieth -century Belfast, tens of thousands of shipyard workers lived and worked East Belfast and relied on Templemore Baths. The Victorian bath-house stands proud on Templemore Avenue, less than a mile from the city centre and just a few stops by bus or glider. The building has been lovingly restored and allows them to tell the story of thousands of ordinary men and women, including those who built the Titanic!

Opened in 1893, the baths were initially proposed as a public health amenity but soon became central to the lives of the workers and their families who powered industrial Belfast. Their Heritage Centre tells the story of the baths and how they served their community; it’s a story of life, leisure, health, and hygiene.

You can explore Templemore Baths through sight, touch, hearing, and smell! Restored and reopened in June 2023, the Heritage Centre has retained many original features and celebrates the architectural significance of the building including its ticket office, slipper baths and the ’Minor Pool’. The latter houses the main exhibition and can now also be hired as a unique events space, suitable up to 100 pax. Their interpretation panels are designed to suit all ages, including several interactive video games especially developed for the exhibition.

EastSide Tourism offers guided and self-guided tours of Templemore Baths. The guided tours are led by experienced tour guides who bring the history of the Baths to life in an engaging and friendly tour lasting around an hour. Book your tickets here! The venue is open for self-guided touring seven days a week, for current times, keep up to date via their social media and website.

Templemore Baths is more than just a museum! The new building also includes a café providing light lunches, teas, and coffees and the newest leisure facility in Belfast. At 28,000 square feet, the new extension houses modern leisure facilities including; a gym, spa facilities, and 25m six-lane swimming pool with spectator seating.

EastSide Tourism, part of EastSide Partnership, manage the heritage space telling the story of the building’s heritage through tours, workshops and events for the local community, schools and visitors. Their team of Heritage Assistants greet visitors, lead guided tours and manage the exhibition space. They’re happy to chat and answer any questions.

For more information, guided tours or event enquires, please visit the Templemore Baths website or email templemorebaths@eastsidepartnership.com and they'll be happy to help!
