Amanda Croft Lecture Series: The Face
Description
Explore portraiture in a series of ten illustrated talks with Amanda Croft in the Ulster Museum Lecture Theatre.
What defines a "successful" portrait? Is it the accurate likeness of the sitter, or does it also reveal the artist’s aesthetic vision? How much should it communicate about the subject’s character and occupation? In this series of illustrated talks, we will explore these questions by examining portraits from the collections of the Ulster Museum, Queen’s University, and other national and international galleries. From self-portraits and selfies to the dynamics of double and group portraits, The Face: Catching a Likeness lecture series will delve into the diverse approaches to portraiture and its evolving role in art and society.
