Description

Express Yourself Social Café flings open its doors for an afternoon of ideas and autobiographical musings by one of our finest poets.

It’s not every day you get to paddle in the wordy world of Dan Eggs, but Tuesday 25th March is your lucky day! Express Yourself Social Café is flinging open the doors from 2:00pm – 4:00pm for an afternoon of ideas and autobiographical musings by one of the finest poets of our time. Dan shapes words into strange new forms and finds humour in the darkness too.

Dan Eggs studied at Trinity College, Dublin and is currently Poet in Residence in Ballymoney Library. Una Bradley interviewed Eggs for the Belfast Telegraph wrote: “POET, performer and all-round free spirit, Dan Eggs talks in riddles. Asked when he began writing, he replies: ‘In my mother’s womb. I can remember scratching graffiti on the wall with my nail.’ and ‘Originally from the Ballymoney area, he is affectionately known as the ‘cultural attaché from Cullybackey’ in Belfast writing circles.’”

Express Yourself Social Café is a weekly intergenerational gathering that provides a wide range of arts-based activities and workshops for, and by, adults with learning disabilities. Since April 2023 they have developed a strong creative community that has gained skills in creative practices and worked in partnership with a wide range of organisations including Pride, Being Human Festival, NI Science Festival and Learning Disability Pride.

Collectively, the group has made animations, leather goods, ceramics, and jewellery, and taken part in activities including painting, dancing, music, and activism. The project is designed to equip all involved with the basic skills to take the artform or idea home and experiment further.

Everyone is welcome… age 18+.
