“We Fought on D-Day” by Mark Scott
Description
The Northern Ireland War Memorial (NIWM) and the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) welcome you to the first of three events to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in June 1944.
On the 80th anniversary of D-Day, this talk will reveal first-hand accounts of the courage, triumph and tragedy of Ulstermen on the Normandy beaches.
In 2004, DoubleBand Films made a documentary, directed by Brian Henry Martin, which featured the last surviving D-Day veterans of the Royal Ulster Rifles. Almost 20 hours of interviews were recorded for the programme and Mark Scott, author and war historian, was given access to them for his latest book, “We fought on D-Day”, which will be launched at this event.
The lecture will take place on Thursday 6 June 2024 at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), 2 Titanic Boulevard, Titanic Quarter, Belfast, BT3 9 HQ, starting at 1pm.
