Losing It + In Between
Description
An electric evening of performance from Palestine exploring the trauma of war through movement and sound.
In Losing It, the Palestinian choreographer and performer Samaa Wakim asks herself how growing up in a war zone has impacted her identity and how the trauma of previous generations manifests in her own body.
Samaa dives into memories of growing up under occupation, exploring the various realities she lives in, and the fantasies she’s created in order to survive. As fear overtakes her, her world begins to disintegrate: the floor becomes unstable and the sounds begin to warp; reality and fantasy blur. With a live score by Samar Haddad King and a soundscape featuring field recordings taken throughout Palestine.
Palestinian circus performer, Esam Sultan opens the evening with his latest short creation In Between. In Between depicts an innocent Palestinian born into a life of struggle, who dreams of a better life but battles against alienation and loneliness.
