Description

The Jailhouse, and adjoining sister bar Henrys, offers a fantastic range of traditional food, local drinks and entertainment alongside the rich history of their name sake Henry Joy.

In what was a derelict building for over 100 years now stands The Jailhouse. Next door to sister pub Henry’s, The Jailhouse takes its name from the long running rumour that it is in fact the site where Henry Joy McCracken was held before being walked down Joy’s Entry to Cornmarket where he was hung in 1798. Notice the original bars on the windows and the inscribed beams.

Long thought to be the site where Henry Joy McCracken was held before being hung in Cornmarket, The Jailhouse resides on Joys Entry, one of the narrow 17th century “first” streets of Belfast. Head down Joys Entry to see seasonal displays.

The Jailhouse offers a fantastic range of traditional food, local drinks and entertainment alongside the rich history of their name sake Henry Joy and the heritage of Joys Entry and the buildings with in it.

Call into this history-soaked building for cocktails, light bites, breakfast and dinner all under the original beams and barred windows.
