Newtownabbey’s strong links with the Industrial Revolution are well demonstrated by Mossley Mill, which has a history of linen production stretching back to the 18th century.
A permanent exhibition throughout the grounds, tells the story of Mossley Mill and the people who worked there from the 1800s to the Mill’s closure in 1996. These exhibits also reveal how the mill has developed in recent years as a civic and cultural centre, as well as an important site for natural heritage.
In the grounds is a pond, one of three that used to supply the mill with water. This important wetland habitat is now an ‘urban pond’ filled with freshwater wildlife. Yarns Kitchen by Manns overlooks the pond and the iconic mill chimney and is open Monday to Friday serving fresh, hot food each day.
