Description

Visit The Lamppost Cafe, a CS Lewis inspired, family run café in East Belfast.

The Lamppost Café is located on the Upper Newtownards Road, just a stone's throw from CS Lewis Square. The Lamppost is inspired by the life and work of local legend, CS Lewis.

With a Narnia twist on tea shop decor, a ragtime soundtrack and everything served on vintage crockery, you will feel as though you have stepped back in time (or into the wardrobe!)

The Lamppost Café is also dog friendly, so bring along your pooch to enjoy lunch or breakfast in this homely and welcoming hidden gem.

Eating and reading are two pleasures that combine admirably – CS Lewis.

The Lamppost Café is one of a kind, and is fast becoming one of Belfast’s most loved cafes. Perfect for visitors, locals and anyone in need of a caffeine fix. Winner of the Eastside award for Foodie Destination 2018, The Lamppost Café is not to be missed.

  • The Cafe

The Lamppost Café is more than just a homage to CS Lewis, it is an escape; a unique and quaint safe haven in the heart of east Belfast.

The cafe has two floors; downstairs is the lively teashop, with Narnia décor and a 1930’s vibe. Upstairs is the Writers Room, a reimagining of CS Lewis’ writers study, where customers can escape the lively atmosphere of Narnia and are encouraged to relax, play chess, or read one of the books from our eclectic bookshelf.

Many customers are self-employed and will sit with their laptops and happily work away all day. In a busy world, this room is a place to press pause, disappear for the afternoon or even just sit by the window, have a coffee and watch the world go by and with Classic FM as the soundtrack, it’s hard not to feel relaxed.

  • Facilities

It is important that everyone feels welcome at The Lamppost; this is why as well as being dog friendly the cafe is also family friendly. There are highchairs for little ones and baby changing facilities for even littler ones, with a complimentary basket full of everything you need to freshen up the wee beauties, for those just-in-case moments.

  • The Food

Visitors are not just attracted to The Lamppost for the décor and facilities but also the menu. The ethos is ‘good food for a good price’ and caters for all tastes.

Call in for breakfast with a menu including fries, poached egg and salmon or avocado, porridge and French toast. Lunch includes hearty servings of homely pie, soup, stew, salad and paninis. There are also lots of delicious treats including scones, cakes and tray-bakes. So you can come to The Lamppost and be good or seriously indulge.

The Lamppost caters for a wide range of dietary requirements, with vegetarian, gluten free and vegan options available.

The Lamppost is passionate about local food and local produce and so are proud of the fact that all suppliers are based in East Belfast and greater Belfast. With a small kitchen, anything that isn’t made in-house is brought in by one brilliant, local supplier. All local, fresh and carefully selected so that The Lamppost Café can provide quality that can’t be beaten.
