Description

During your time at Sturdy Ceramics, you'll learn three main techniques that you can adapt to make most clay vessels, giving you a good foundational knowledge if you wanted to continue your practice and develop your skills.

You'll have the opportunity to be in a learning space at the historic Conway Mill, situated in the heart of West Belfast beside the politically rich peace wall. You'll learn some hand-building practices and finish up with a chef's favorite - the potter's wheel.

Ruth Sturdy has an interest in making the arts accessible to all and sharing knowledge. Because the artist is self-taught, she has a unique way of teaching which is participant-directed, allowing students the freedom to make mistakes, providing the tools to cultivate creative vision, and offering the insight of learning at their own pace.

This class is the first of its kind in Belfast, and what better location to be hosted than the historically rich Conway Mill? The building is an old flax mill recently refurbished to create a gorgeous learning space that is open to the community and its artists.

The studio is open six days a week, meaning we will be able to accommodate your booking at a time that suits you.

Whether you need a creative outlet or are keen to learn a new skill, this is the perfect opportunity for you to destress while enjoying being led through learning a new skill.

Private bookings include:

  • A two-hour crafting session

  • Instruction on creating your own clay vessels

  • Room rental

  • Access to all tools and materials

  • Unlimited clay for your creations

  • Firing and delivery of your two favourite pieces to your address approximately four weeks after your visit.
